VE DAY 65TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONkathryn with world war 2 veteran george main

THORNTON HOUGH VILLAGE, WIRRAL

Kathryn joined the celebrations at Thornton Hough Village to mark 65 years since the end of the Second World War. Singing during the day popular nostalgic war songs and sing-a-longs. In addition to the live wartime entertainment, the day included picnics on the village green, period military and civilian vehicles, charity stalls and military parades, 1940's children's games and a themed fancy dress competition recapturing the spirit of 1945.

Kathryn performed in aid of "D-Day Revisited" a charity that funds annual visits by the British Armed Forces Veterans to the Normandy Landing Sites and provides a forum where World War II Veterans can record and share their experiences with younger generations. D-Day Revisited

WIGMORE HALL RECITAL - JULY 2011

Following successful audition Kathryn has been offered a Musicians' Company Concert at the leading international recital venue of Wigmore Hall in London for July 2011. The award winners recital will be supported by the Maisie Lewis Young Artists Fund.

YOUNG CONCERT ARTISTS TRUST PUBLIC FINAL - MAY 2010

Kathryn is one of eight finalists who have been selected to appear in the YCAT prestigious public finals to be held at Wigmore Hall on Friday 21st May 2010. The finalists were chosen from a rigorous audition process which saw a record number of 120 applicants reduced down to 21 in the semifinal. YCAT offers advice and guidance alongside a full artist management service to selected artists for between three and five years. www.ycat.co.uk

 KATHRYN AWARDED WORSHIPFUL COMPANY OF MUSICIANS’ SILVER MEDAL

The Royal Northern College of Music nominated Kathryn for excellence in performance to receive a Silver Medal from the Worshipful Company of Musicians. The ceremony took place on Wednesday 11th November 2009 in the magnificent setting of Draper’s Hall in London.  Kathryn was a guest at the Installation Dinner and was presented with her medal by the Master of Ceremonies Mr. M. J. Summerfield.   Kathryn is honoured to have received such a prestigious award.

Kathryn performed in April in the role of Olga in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin conducted by Tim Dean with Aberdeen Sinfonietta for Haddo House Choral & Operatic Society in Aberdeen.

JOYCE AND MICHAEL KENNEDY AWARD FOR THE SINGING OF STRAUSSstrauss prize

MARCH 2009

Kathryn was delighted to win the Joyce and Michael Kennedy Award for the Singing of Strauss at a competition held at the Royal Northern College of Music on Wednesday 4th March 2009.   Six finalists had been selected following a preliminary round and candidates were required to perform a fifteen minute programme. Sir John Tomlinson the famous bass-baritone, Michael Kennedy, OBE and Ann Taylor, Mezzo Soprano were the adjudicators.

MASTERCLASS WITH SIR WILLARD WHITE

FEBRUARY 2009

World-renowned singer Sir Willard White has recently been appointed the President of the Royal Northern College of  Music.   Sir Willard worked with Kathryn and other students from the RNCM’s School of Vocal and Opera Studies in his first RNCM public Masterclass on Thursday, 12th February in the RNCM's Concert Hall.

CLONTER OPERA AND AUDIENCE PRIZE

JANUARY 2009

Kathryn was thrilled to be awarded the Clonter Opera Prize together with the audience prize at the annual competition held on Saturday 31st January 2009.  The UK’s major conservatoires each nominated a singer to compete and the esteemed judging panel selected which singer would take home the prize.  The audience were also given the opportunity to vote for their favourite singer, with their vote counting as one nomination towards the final result.

NEW YEAR’S EVE GALA: GRAND FINALE

DECEMBER 2008

Kathryn performed as the guest soloist in a New Year’s Eve Gala with Conductor Carl Davis and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra at the Philharmonic Hall in Liverpool.The programme included much-loved classics Jerusalem, Land of Hope and Glory and Rule Britannia, as well as featuring music from the waltzes of Joahann Strauss Jr to Bernstein's West Side Story, with Khachaturian, Saint-Saens and Bizet along the way ...concluding with the traditional Auld Lang Syne.

1st CLASS  B MUS. (HONS).

JULY 2008

Kathryn was delighted to be awarded a 1st Class B Mus. (Hons.) on completion of her four years of undergraduate study at the Royal Northern College of Music.   She is also the recipient of a RNCM Postgraduate Scholarship and the Amanda Roocroft Award.

THE BRUCE MILLAR/GULLIVER PRIZE 2008

FEBRUARY 2008

Kathryn was thrilled to win The Bruce Millar/Gulliver Prize for young opera singers at a national competition held at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow on 24th February, 2008.    Since 1989 many young opera singers have benefited from the prize which supports further study to enhance their careers.  Six of Britain’s conservatoires were each invited to nominate a student to compete for the prize.  The candidates were then interviewed by an adjudicating panel prior to the public performance of three arias.

FREDERIC COX AWARD 

FEBRUARY 2008 

Kathryn was delighted to win the Royal Northern College of Music’s prestigious Frederic Cox Award in a public competition held in the RNCM’s Haden Freeman Concert Hall on 5th February 2008.  The prize supports further postgraduate study at the RNCM.   The adjudicating panel included the soprano Jane Eaglen and Kathryn also performed for her in a masterclass.

LIVERPOOL ECHO ARENA

JANUARY 2008

Kathryn was honoured to be invited to appear as a soloist in her home city (in the role of Britannia!) with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Vasily Petrenko in 'Liverpool the Musical', which celebrated the Opening of the Liverpool Echo Arena and Liverpool's reign as 2008 European City of Culture.

RICHMOND, YORKSHIRE

JANUARY 2008 

Kathryn appeared in the principal role of Cherubino in Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro (English Translation) with an RNCM cast in a Special Anniversary Event celebrating 60 years of promoting live classical music in Richmond, N. Yorkshire.  The production was held at the Zetland Centre, Richmond with the Cleveland Chamber Orchestra and conductor Tim Jackson.

BBC FAME ACADEMY EDUCATION AWARD

NOVEMBER 2007

Kathryn was awarded a prestigious Fame Academy Education Bursary worth £20,000 which will fund her opera and vocal studies at postgraduate level.    There were over 950 applicants for this award and the competition was fierce at audition.   The Fame Academy bursaries were set up two years ago from the profits generated from record sales and phone lines on the popular BBC series to develop outstanding new musical talent.

Kathryn was thrilled to have won this bursary which will enable her to focus on the continued development of her singing career.   Kathryn is grateful to the BBC for their generous support.

YMFE VOCAL SCHOLARSHIP 

FEBRUARY 2007

The 2007 Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe scholarships were dedicated to voice this year and produced a record number of entries.  Kathryn was one of the ten finalists selected at the preliminary rounds and she performed a programme of 30 minutes at a live final in the Royal College of Music in London in front of a capacity audience.  

Kathryn was delighted to be selected as one of three students to win a scholarship to assist in furthering her studies and musical career and is grateful to the YMFE for their support.
